This catalogue was published on the occasion of the gallery’s first exhibition of the American sculptor, Deborah Butterfield, well known for her renditions of horses made from found detritus, metal, wood, and patinated cast bronze. Deborah Butterfield was born on the same day as the 75th Kentucky Derby, an event which she describes as an impetus for her lifelong fascination with her unique subject matter: horses. Along with boarding and caring for her own horses, her sculptures exemplify the great appreciation and respect she has for them. The fully illustrated catalogue features eighteen color plates and an essay and interview entitled Animal, Vegetable, Mineral by Lawrence Weschler, a veteran of The New Yorker and director emeritus of the New York Institute for the Humanities at NYU.
